Description

TREX (TRee EXplorer) is a web-based tool for the multidimensional exploration of language trees. With TREX, evolutionary trees can be explored with the help of three interacting interfaces:

  • The TREE interface offers a cladogram representation of trees with collapsible nodes.
  • The SUNBURST interface gives a sunburst visualization of trees.
  • The MAP interface shows the languages in geographic space (using locations provided by the user or automatically pulled from existing databases) with help of Voronoj diagrams.
All three interfaces are interactive. That means, they interact in multiple ways. In order to get started with exploring TREX, just go to our interface for DATA input and either paste or drag your own data, or give it a quick try by creating random data or using a test set for Chinese dialect varieties.
